Chris Gollon: Latest Acquisitions
A Drink to Soutine
Chris Gollon (born London, 1953) is an established name in British art, and an exciting innovator in the field of figurative painting. He has enjoyed many solo museum exhibitions in the UK, museum acquisitions and public commissions. In 2004, he showed in St Paul’s Cathedral with Bill Viola, Craigie Aitchison and Maggi Hambling in ‘Presence: Images of Christ for the Third Millennium’. In 2009, his 14 Stations of the Cross were permanently installed in a grade-one listed church in East London, designed by Sir John Soane. Award-winning novelist Sara Maitland’s book ‘Stations of the Cross’, inspired by and featuring Gollon’s paintings was also published in 2009 (Continuum Publishing, London & New York). His film collaboration with JABOD, entitled ‘Kaleidomorphism One’, was premiered in London at the East End Film Festival (2008). Gollon's work has been regularly featured on BBC1, BBC Radio 4 and in all the major broadsheets. Chris Gollon lives and works in Surrey and is a Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Study, University of Durham. Critical acclaim for his work is growing. ‘Chris Gollon: Humanity in Art’ by leading art historian Tamsin Pickeral published in summer 2010 (Hyde & Hughes) is an excellent insight into Gollon's life, paintings and working methods.
