This painting was partially inspired by Chris Gollon reading a book by the celebrated physicist Richard Feynman, who described how in Renaissance times it was thought assistance by angels was the cause of planets not orbiting in perfect circles. Feynman noted that although we still don't exactly know why, that in the modern day, until we know 100%, we could say it was due to "angels without wings". That simple phrase inspired this rhythmic and mysterious painting by Chris Gollon. This painting is part of the series entitled 'Early Thoughts' (see Exhibitions page for details). In preparation for his Fellowship & Residency at the Institute of Advanced Study in early 2009, Chris Gollon begins six months before to explore his own general idea and early thoughts on the Fellowship's theme: 'Being Human'.
