Sancho Panza Being Tossed In the Blanket
An exhibition of paintings partially influenced by music, literature and film. Open Fridays 12.30 - 6.30pm, Saturdays 12-4pm or by appt. The titles and images in Chris Gollon's paintings have often been partially influenced by great contemporary song lyrics, by great literature and film images. This exhibition looked at the interplay between these various artistic genres, and how they act as a fillip to Gollon's imagination and the resulting images. The image on left is entitled 'Sancho Panza Being Tossed in the Blanket by the Landlord & Assorted Ruffians' by Chris Gollon, taking its title from an episode in Cervantes' great novel Don Quixote.
The second image shown is entitled 'The Fool on the Hill' from the Beatles' track, where using a broken still life in a strange landscape Gollon manages to create the feeling or world of a lonely seer, with the broken guitar hinting perhaps also at heart in the same condition.
