During the global pandemic, during the lockdowns, we all miss socialising with our friends as once we did. Therefore, we have included this warm and humorous image of friendship to the 'Emergence & Transformation -- Revisited' exhibition, since it reminds us all of what we are missing and the value of our close friendships.

This work by Chris Gollon is from a series of works on Khadi paper Chris Gollon made in the last year of his life. With a nod to Morandi's still life, Gollon takes it further to make the pots almost seem like three amigos out on the dusty road. By deliberately making the shadows all wrong he animates his objects to hint at a human drama.

Chris Gollon was a great painter of human relationships and human dramas, which he portrayed with great empathy, often with warm humour. Even in still life he was able to allude to a human drama or situation, which art historian Tamsin Pickeral describes so well in her book on Chris Gollon's life and work 'Humanity in Art', endorsed by Bill Bryson OBE.
