This pastel is a response to a view in Digley, in Blackburn's native Yorkshire. Here he uses ochre tones at the top which he has contrasted with a network of firm black lines to suggest the trees and sunlight of the title. This composition is divided into three, beneath the top section is a pale brown band and below that blues appear. Nothing in this work is literal, hills, trees, earth and water are bought to mind by association with the colours and mark making.

David Blackburn: Works from the Studio Estate museum exhibition was at the Huddersfield Art Gallery, summer 2019.

Provenance

From a private collector, who purchased this work from the artist.
