This painting was originally titled 'It Started Off So Well', but Chris Gollon then re-thought and altered it for the Eleanor McEvoy-inspired NAKED MUSIC series.

It is now catalogued as part of Gollon's NAKED MUSIC series, his two-year exercise in artistic boundary crossing with singer-songwriter Eleanor McEvoy. It takes partial inspiration from the song 'Half out of Habit' (NAKED MUSIC album, 2016) about a woman wanting to leave, but remaining in a relationship, since she has nowhere else to go. Gollon began experimenting with giving expression to featureless faces in the 1990s, but very successfully returned to it many times, notably with a painting inspired by the famous Peggy Lee song 'Is That All There Is?' in 2005; and also with his series 'At Le Bal' after Ettore Scola's award-winning film 'Le Bal', as well as later paintings with scarecrow-like figures.
