This painting comes from a series of works Chris Gollon painted just after art historian Tamsin Pickeral's book 'Chris Gollon: Humanity in Art' was published in 2010. It had charted all his work to date, and his techniques, including his masterful use of black; but also his Old Master techniques of thin glazes that he innovatively brought to the modern medium of acrylic, giving a creamy matt beauty in the subtle flesh tones, as here.
