Chris Gollon was a was a master of the comi-tragic in much of his work, using humour to shed light on more serious universal themes, yet his figures always retain a certain human dignity.
As a sun-tanned companion piece to 'Trouble (I)', this work has just been added to the exhibition 'Emergence & Transformation', since it perhaps holds a warning about that small minority who return from holidays, without respecting the distancing and quarantine rules.
This work by Chris Gollon has been selected for the exhibition 'Emergence & Transformation', since it perhaps holds a warning as we emerge from lockdown. During lockdown a new word entered the English language: "covidiot". The covidiot term is applied to those who ignore the social distancing rules, putting both themselves and others in danger.
During the global pandemic, this comi-tragic image may help us stay vigilant, and cross the road when 'Trouble' appears on the horizon.
