28” x 22” (71 x 56 cm), silk-screen print on Somerset 300g fine art paper, 2006. Study for 14 Stations of the Cross for St John on Bethnal Green. From a signed edition of 100
In June 2005, Chris Gollon chose to work again with master printmaker Ian Wilkinson at the Cambridgeshire-based Limberhurst Press print studio. Ian has worked with many leading contemporary artists including Paula Rego, John Bellany, Eduardo Paolozzi, Elizabeth Frink and Anthony Gormley. In a very creative, technical collaboration with Ian Wilkinson, and using twenty silk-screens, Chris Gollon produced this edition of silk-screen prints.
Published by IAP Fine Art, Mater Dolorosa is an edition of 100 screenprints, each signed and numbered by the artist. It is also an official study for Chris Gollon’s great series of paintings 14 Stations of the Cross now installed permanently in St John on Bethnal Green, a grade-one listed church designed by Sir John Soane and located next to the Museum of Childhood in East London.
Chris Gollon made this richly-coloured image of the Mater Dolorosa to include an extraordinary, iconic gold sky, with screens hand-painted by the artist.
